Horses

We share our back yard with our Haflinger horses. Each has an extra large stall with rubber matting on the floor and shavings changed daily. The horses have a beautiful view of the valley from their stalls. In summer they frolic and graze in their hillside pastures above Martinez.

Fancy Ferriage uses a pair or a single carriage horse. These carriage horses like to travel at a rate of 4 to 6 MPH. Each of our horses receives extensive training before they are allowed to participate in events. Only those horses that have a temperament suited to the work pass the training. Every horse is bathed and groomed prior to each event. All of our horses wear rubber boots to protect their feet and provide them with traction on pavement. They wear diapers to protect the pavement from the horses.

Carriages and Drivers

Our two Vis-à-vis Carriages (White with royal blue upholstery or Burgundy with burgundy upholstery) are exquisite reproductions of elegant carriages, which were brought to America from France in the early 1800s. They have velvet upholstery and convertible tops.

We also have wagonettes, a covered wagon and surreys with a fringe on top. Each of these reproductions was hand crafted with natural oak bodies and hickory running gear. Our fancy Burgundy Hitch Wagon with white running gear, pin striping and chrome accents is used for funerals.

Upon request we will provide:

• Just Married, Just Hitched, or Heading to the Wedding signs for the back of the carriages.
• Carriage decorated with your flowers or streamers.

Carriages are appropriately decorated for holidays, have blankets and can be fully enclosed during inclement weather.

Our Drivers and Coachmen have had years of training and experience. They take a great deal of pride in presentation, execution of their duties and in the spotless condition of horse, carriage, tack and their own costumes. The costumes range from formal top hat and tails to western, what ever best suits the occasion.
